If you haven’t read my extended bio (Ramble On) on the About page of this website, you may not know I spent many years working at WJCT, the PBS/NPR station in Jacksonville, Florida. There will be a homecoming of sorts on Thursday, November 21, when I appear on First Coast Connect. The hour-long call-in program hosted by Anne Schindler features a variety of local newsmakers and civic and community leaders. I will be one of the assorted guests on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. discussing my new book, James R. Anthony: The Banker Who Shaped Florida’s History, and possibly my ghostwriting experiences. You can find First Coast Connect at 89.9 on your FM dial if you are within 75 miles of Jacksonville. Tune in. I’ll be looking for you.
WJCT 89.9 FM First Coast Connect Thursday, November 21 at 9 a.m.
If you missed my book talk at the Happy Medium Books Cafe on November 17th, you can catch an updated presentation at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library on Sunday, December 8, at 3 p.m. My illustrated talk will bring James R. Anthony to life, and you’ll learn how this unknown but pivotal figure rose from a poor Georgia farm boy to what one historian called the “King of the Chain Banks.” Anthony’s story is part of the broader history of Florida, and yes, I will have books on hand for anyone wishing to buy one.
Book Talk Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library 101 Library Boulevard in PVB
James R. Anthony rose from poor Georgia farm boy to what one historian called “the King of chain banks.” I’ve been invited to share his story and how he impacted Florida’s story at the Amelia Island Museum of History’s monthly program, 3rd on 3rd — the 3rd Friday of the month — February 21. This will be a one-hour show-and-tell with vintage photographs of the events swirling around this little-known but pivotal figure in our state’s history.
Friday, February 21 at 6 p.m. Amelia Island Museum of History 233 S. 3rd Street Fernandina Beach, FL 32034
