James R. Anthony rose from poor Georgia farm boy to what one historian called “Florida’s King of chain banks.” I’ve been invited to share his story and how he impacted Florida’s story at the Amelia Island Museum of History’s monthly program, 3rd on 3rd — the 3rd Friday of the month — February 21. This will be a one-hour show-and-tell with vintage photographs of the events swirling around this little-known but pivotal figure in our state’s history.

“Moods, Motifs and MacGuffins: Timeless Literary Devices Worth M-Bracing” is the title of my newest workshop. Authors use literary devices to raise their writing to new levels and connect with readers in unique ways. In this workshop, I’ll examine two common literary devices, Mood and Motifs, and a plot device popularized by Alfred Hitchcock. Join me for this Ancient City Writers presentation on Saturday, April 19. The group meets at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Main Library.
