Instead, he and a ragtag gang of boys learn life can be both unpredictable and dangerous. This longish short story introduces us to Quint as a thirteen-year-old from a wealthy connected family but questioning if there is more to life than skiing in Aspen and summering in the Hamptons. In Blue Crabs at Midnight Quint learns that being part of the “Tomato Field Gang” has its own rewards and boyhood shenanigans can sometimes bring unexpected and frightening results.
